The women who work with Ways of Change use "back-strap" weaving techniques. However traditionally, in Kayan, Kayah and Karenni culture, large wooden looms are often used.
For these women, the absence of this traditional knowledge is symbolic of the disconnect that the refugee village feels from their culture having been uprooted and living on the border.
WoC has partnered with Karenni National Women's Organization in order to provide training using traditional looms.
Say Mey, who lives in the refugee camp spent a month in the village providing the training for two women; Ma Ley and Bo Mey. Both women have been using their new weaving skills to make the inside lining of bags for the 'Terra Ma' Collection.
