The villages working with Ways of Change have used traditional building techniques to build their homes and other structures in the village. They use bamboo and also other woods from the forest.
Deforestation due to the use of wood in construction is a very real issue in Thailand and has become so more recently in Burma. Deforestation is one of the many environmental impacts of refugee settlements (worldwide), which contribute to discrimination against refugee communities.
WoC and KCDS have partnered with a local Permaculture Community to learn Natural Building skills such as adobe mud brick-making. Several KCDS interns are becoming skilled in Natural Building and will share their skills with the villages working with WoC.
